December 2020
SYSO Members,
At the December meeting of the SYSO Board, an election will be held to fill three open positions on the SYSO Executive Board (EB). We are seeking all candidates who are interested in running for these positions.
The SYSO EB is comprised of volunteers from the organization whose duties and responsibilities are to oversee and manage the twelve sports programs that make up SYSO…Football, Baseball, Boys/Girls Basketball, Softball, FC Somers, AYSO Soccer, Wrestling, Boys/Girls Lacrosse, Cheerleading and Girls Flag Football. We are looking for dedicated and qualified members that can continue to build toward the future, while maintaining a code of honesty and transparency.
In accordance with the SYSO By Laws, all proposed candidates must meet the minimum requirements to serve on the EB:
1. All candidates must be a SYSO member for a minimum of six months
2. All candidates must be a SYSO on field or off field volunteer for two years
3. All candidates must comply with SYSO’s conflict of interest policy
In addition to meeting these requirements, it is important that all candidates are willing to dedicate the time and energy that a spot on the EB demands. One must possess a passion and devotion to serve the SYSO community and ultimately, the children of Somers.
If you are interested in becoming a candidate, please email the Election Committee - electioncommittee@somerssports.org - by Monday, December 14th. Shortly thereafter we will arrange for a brief, informal interview to help us better understand your strengths and interests. The election committee will then present the proposed slate of candidates to the SYSO Board before the December meeting/election. At this meeting, all candidates will have an opportunity to personally introduce themselves and speak to the SYSO Board before members cast their vote. When the election concludes, the three open positions will be filled by the top three vote getters and the EB will again have seven members. At a later date, the EB will determine what role each member will hold amongst themselves.
Whether it’s coaches, commissioners, committee members or the Executive Board….SYSO is only as strong as the volunteers that dedicate themselves to make the organization the success that it is. If you ever wanted to get involved but haven’t, now is your chance. If you want to have a voice, the time is now. If you have what it takes to build on an already great organization that serves the young athletes of our community, please consider becoming a candidate.
Please feel free to contact with any questions or concerns.
